Jorge Cuartas
Dr. Jorge Cuartas is an Assistant Professor of Applied Psychology and director of the Catalyzing Action for Resilient Ecologies (CARE) lab at New York University and Researcher at Universidad de los Andes in Colombia. Jorge’s research lies at the intersection between developmental psychology, economics, implementation science, and public health and focuses on (1) the developmental consequences of violence against children, (2) how structural inequities shape early childhood development and parenting, (3) the design, implementation, and evaluation of violence prevention and early childhood programs and policies, and (4) the developmental consequences and promotion of resilience amid global threats like the climate crisis. Jorge holds a Ph.D. in Education (Human Development, Learning, and Teaching) from Harvard University (Ph.D. advisor: Prof. Dana McCoy), Ed.M. in Human Development and Psychology from Harvard, and M.Sc. in Economics from Universidad de los Andes.
While in the SEED Lab, Jorge worked on the CREDI project, on the evaluation of the Afinidata intervention in Brazil, and on research examining the developmental effects of exposure to community violent crime.
