Sophie Barnes is a doctoral student in Human Development, Learning, and Teaching. Sophie’s research focuses on understanding the setting- and individual-level mechanisms that support children’s social, emotional, and behavioral skill development in school contexts, with a focus on executive function and self-regulation. She is also interested in adding nuance and precision to SEL measurement and evaluating school-based interventions that target children’s SEL growth and development. Prior to beginning doctoral studies, Sophie worked in the EASEL Lab with Dr. Stephanie Jones. She received an Ed.M. in the Child Advocacy concentration of the Human Development and Psychology program at the Harvard Graduate School of Education and her B.S. in Applied Psychology from New York University.

In the SEED lab, Sophie works on the evaluation of social and emotional learning interventions, such as Brain Games, in Brazil.
