Dr. McCoy and other members of the SEED Lab have recently published two articles in the journal Child Development related to children's wellbeing in global contexts. The first was co-authored with former doctoral student Emily Hanno and colleagues from FGV in Brazil.  It presents the first-year effects of a social-emotional learning intervention, Programa Compasso, as implemented in primary schools in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.  Although no overall impacts of the program were identified, results did show evidence for positive program effects on children's emotion knowledge and executive function in low-violence communities.  The full study can be found here.

The second study was co-authored with doctoral student Jorge Cuartas and colleagues from around the world.  The study uses simulation methods to estimate likely large impacts of global COVID-related preprimary school closures on children's short- and long-term outcomes. Particularly large and negative effects were estimated for children's development and learning outcomes in low- and middle-income countries, raising concerns about equity in these settings. The full study can be found here.
